I have a FreeBSD 7.3 server and I configured IPsec on it but now I need to put my server behind a NAT. Routed IPsec (VTI)¶ Route-based IPsec is an alternative method of managing IPsec traffic. It uses if_ipsec(4) from FreeBSD 11.1+ for Virtual Tunnel Interfaces (VTI) and traffic is directed using the operating system routing table. It does not rely on strict kernel security association matching like policy-based (Tunneled) IPsec.

Short summary : IPSec vpns beetween RFC1918 colliding networks is becoming pretty usual these days. FreeBSD's IPSec stack should support this kind of setup if properly assisted by IKEd, as stated by Ermal Luçi : "AFAIK, there is not limitation to allow this in the IPSec stack. So it is purely a daemon perspective to instrument the stack for this."
